Hello Field Engineering Community!
We are grateful to have the opportunity to begin working with Marty’s clients directly. We admired him and know he had some amazing clients supporting him throughout his career. We had the privilege of working with Marty for over 25 years and were fortunate to have also called him a friend. Please see below for more details on what this transition process will mean for you, information on our company, and also for a chance to give us any type of feedback you may have. I'm looking forward to getting to work with you and learning more about you and your business. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions at all!

Our
Story

Get to Know Us
We are a small family-owned laboratory established in 1960 and have analyzed drinking water for 40+ years. The lab was started by my grandfather , John, and was taken over by my father, Bill VanArsdale, after my grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Maintaining a high level of customer service that we believe only a small laboratory can offer has been our highest priority (along with timely and accurate results of course).
Myself and my business partner, Frances Turner, purchased the company in December 2023. I focus on maintaining the business and interacting with clients while Frances ensures that everything we do at the lab meets the highest quality standard and that we are always in compliance with state and local regulatory guidelines. We both care deeply about our work and know that we have a great company with a reputable history . Which means that we put in a lot of hard work and hours to maintain and improve TCWC, as I’m sure you all do for your business too! My two kids, Peyton (5) and Emmett (2), have spent many weekend afternoons coloring or having some TV time at the lab.
We are accredited by the Minnesota Department of Health for the analysis of Total Coliform Bacteria, E. coli, Nitrate as N, Nitrite as N, Nitrate and Nitrite as N, Arsenic, and Lead.
We are accredited by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection for the analysis of Total Coliform Bacteria and E. coli and by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for the analysis ofNitrate as N and Nitrate and Nitrite as N.
If you need to test for anything not listed in our scope, we handle all subcontracting for a seamless process.
Our Team

Mollie Schmieg VanArsdale
Co-Owner I Office Manager
Team Member since: 2020
What makes TCWC special?
"The level of service we give to our clients is pretty amazing. We're on a first name basis with almost all of our clients and really go above and beyond for them."
Mollie is the third generation of this family owned laboratory. She has been with the team full time for over four years now and has been working part time ever since she was in high school. Mollie has experience as a marketing specialist and project manager prior to working at TCWC and puts those skills to use as the Office Manager. She loves being outside with her 5yr old and 2yr old, finding new playgrounds and hiking trails. She also can't resist a good Netflix documentary, especially when it involves true crime.

Kirsten Semmer
Lab Analyst
Team Member since: 2024
What makes TCWC special?
"I really value working for a small, women-owned lab with long-standing client relations and a commitment to its community."
Kirsten has been a part of our team since January 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology, Evolution and Behavior from the University of Minnesota. Kirsten has been catching on quickly and self-initiating to learn as much as possible, focusing on the chemistry side. Outside of the laboratory, Kirsten loves hiking and spending time outdoors, illustration, and animals. She resides in Minneapolis with her partner and their two cats.

Margie K - F.E. Staff
Office Manager
Field Engineering member since: 2010
Margie has been with Field Engineering for over 15+ years (?). She handles getting all of the necessary information from clients, scheduling pick-ups, and sending out reports to the client. She loves pandas and is a huge lego enthusiast. We've yet to find a lego kit that is too challenging for her.

Frances Turner
Co-Owner I Laboratory Manager
Team Member since: 2018
What makes TCWC special?
"Our commitment to not only high quality results but also to outstanding customer service and meaningful client relationships"
Frances has been a dedicated member of the TCWC team since 2018 and has been the Laboratory & Technical Director since 2021. With a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Portland, Oregon, her passion for interdisciplinary work drives her many contributions. Frances is always looking for ways to optimize best lab practices and hold TCWC's quality control program to the highest standard. Outside the lab, she enjoys exploring the Twin Cities' vibrant food scene, lakes, and parks as well as trying new recipes and playing beach volleyball and pickleball.

Bill VanArsdale
Client Relations
Team Member since: 1972
What makes TCWC Special?
"The time we spend with our clients. Large labs don't have the time or capacity to relate a clients test and how it will effect them. Our staff has and always will focus on giving clients a full understanding of their concerns and what services they need"
Bill VanArsdale has been with TCWC for 52 years and owned it for over 40 years with finally retiring in January of 2024. Bill worked closely with his father back when they focused on testing boilers and furnaces. Bill saw potential though in testing drinking water. The company slowly transitioned to soley focusing on drinking water and has specialized in it ever since. Bill has done an amazing job cultivating relationships, keeping pace with technology and quality control. He is now enjoying the fun parts of the job - chatting it up with clients in the field and reading his morning paper.

Betty G - F.E. Staff
Field Service Representative
Team Member since: 2024
Betty stepped up after Marty got into his car accident in September and started taking his route. Besides grabbing samples from well drillers, she collects samples for property sales and private clients. We hear she makes a mean batch of chocolate chip cookies and we’re excited to test them out!
